Originally performed in 1961 at the Stand
Theatre, with Irene Handl in the pivotal role of Amelia Puffin, for
that role producer Bert Moore turned to a newcomer to the Fairlight
Players (his wife?) Hilda Moore. Hilda was one of four newcomers
making a debut in this performance, the others being David
Crouch, Peter Teesdale and Raymond Goree. The play follows events in
the Fordyce household a few days before Christmas, as
the family prepare for the forthcoming wedding of eldest daughter, Jacqueline.
The review suggests that all members of the cast
performed well, which is fortunate, as this play was subsequently to
be taken to the much larger venue, namely the De La Warr Pavilion in
Bexhill as a part of a "Three Act Play
Festival."
Although not arranged with the Fairlight Players in mind,
this was, nevertheless, a timely opportunity, coming as it did
shortly after the group celebrated its silver
jubilee. |
